Govt quarters suffer extensive damage

Srinagar, Jan 28 (KNO): A fire incident in the government residential quarters at Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar, this morning left a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and a firefighter injured, officials said. He said the injured individuals are currently undergoing treatment and the fire was later brought under control. An official from the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Department told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a fire broke out in a double-storey government residential building, which houses two quarter sets (29 and 30). He said fire tenders rushed to the scene shortly after the incident was reported, and an operation was launched to douse the flames. He said in the incident Hilal Ahmad, a DSP of the ACB residing in one of the quarters, sustained burn injuries and was shifted to a hospital before the arrival of the Fire and Emergency Services. “During the firefighting operation, Basit, a firefighter, was also injured. Both are now receiving medical attention, and their condition is stable,” he said. Meanwhile, the official added that the fire caused extensive damage to the first floor of Quarter 29, destroying the roofing, ceiling, wooden paneling, furniture, bedding, clothing, household goods, and other items. “The ground floor of the same quarter sustained partial damage to its wooden paneling and staircase. Also, Quarter 30, suffered damage, with the roof partially affected and indirect damage caused by water,” he said, adding that a Maruti Brezza car bearing registration number UK08AN 0500, parked nearby, was partially damaged in the incident.
